While Birmingham boasts a vibrant restaurant scene, The Bright Star in nearby Bessemer holds the title of Alabama’s oldest. Established in 1907, this family-run gem started as a small cafe. In 2007, the Bright Star celebrated its 100 year anniversary with a celebration honoring guests and employees. Today, it’s a beloved landmark, serving generations a menu of Greek-style snapper, seafood gumbo, and melt-in-your-mouth steaks. Original hand-painted murals adorn the walls, whispering stories of a bygone era.

With its warm hospitality and delicious fare, The Bright Star continues to be a Birmingham favorite, proving to truly stand the test of time.
